One of the songs we sang this week in 1st grade music is "Polar Bear, Polar Bear" written by music teacher, Jennifer Bailey. The 1st graders loved this minor tonality melody, and many of the students figured out the tonality on their own, and were able to sing the resting tone ("la") at the end of the song. I really am amazed at how quickly their ears are developing! Because this song mentions the Northern Lights or Aurora Borealis. I then showed the students a bunch of different pictures of the Northern Lights, and we talked briefly about where they come from. Here is a very cool video that I found showing the Northern Lights in action.

I too am a music teacher and recently did Polar Bear with my 4-5 year olds. Now I'm trying to contact the composer. Another teacher passed the music onto me so I don't know where it originated. Have you any idea if it came from a published book?
