One of the songs we sang this week in 1st grade music is "Polar Bear, Polar Bear" written by music teacher, Jennifer Bailey. The 1st graders loved this minor tonality melody, and many of the students figured out the tonality on their own, and were able to sing the resting tone ("la") at the end of the song. I really am amazed at how quickly their ears are developing! Because this song mentions the Northern Lights or Aurora Borealis. I then showed the students a bunch of different pictures of the Northern Lights, and we talked briefly about where they come from. Here is a very cool video that I found showing the Northern Lights in action.
Today at Bryant we celebrated the upcoming Martin Luther King holiday with our annual all school assembly. The assembly featured performances from a variety of classes and included songs, poems and student's writing. It is always a very special assembly and one of my favorite all-school gatherings of the year. All of the classes that performed did a fantastic job with their tributes to Dr. King. Here are some recordings of some of the songs that were performed today, in case you missed it! A special thank you to all of the students and teachers that participated!!!
