Hello families! I often will get emails from parents asking about music lessons for their child, so I decided to create a Music Lessons Resource page to add to our website. On here I have put links to area private music teacher organizations, children's choirs and have answered some frequently asked questions. If you are interested in private lessons for your child, please take a look here! If there is any important information that I may have missed, please let me know and I will add it to this page. I will also try to add other extra-curricular musical opportunities to this page as I come across them. I hope this is a helpful resource for you! Click on the button below to visit the page, or reach the page under the "Resources" tab on the top tool bar.

Dear Bryant Families, During the month of May, our K, 1, 2 students will have the opportunity to share some of their music making with you! Kindergarten and 1st graders will be participating in "Informances," and the 2nd grade students will have a "Spring Sing" Concert at 6:30 pm on Thursday May 31st. What is an Informance? An informance is an informative and informal way for our students to share their music-making. All informances will take place in the music classroom and will give family members a chance to experience a typical music class with their student. During the class we will be performing songs, chants, and movement activities to showcase the skills and concepts we have developed over the course of the year. Parents and friends will be able to participate with us in class and will leave with a better understanding of how our students learn music. We hope you will join us for this fun, informative and musical experience! When is my child's Informance?
2nd Grade Spring Sing Concert
The 2nd Grade "Spring Sing Concert will take place on Thursday May 31st at 6:30 PM. Students are asked to arrive at 6:15 in the Multipurpose room. We hope to see you there!
This week, in honor of Valentine's day next week, our classes have been doing different activities with the simple song, "Love Somebody." Kindergartners enjoyed singing the song and then taking turns playing the tonic pattern on my metallophones (xylophones with metal bars). The first and second graders were musical detectives and worked to find the hidden major tonic patterns in my song, and figured out that there are 3. Then they got a chance to play those patterns on glockenspiels, and even got to improvise their own major tonic patterns. 2nd graders have been working on reading the notation for those patterns as well. Lastly, we used what we learned about major tonic patterns and applied them in a game that Ms. Vaujin, my student teacher, taught called "Lucy Locket" where students got to pass a key around the circle and then the student in the middle got a chance to guess who had the key by singing their own major tonic pattern. If the person had the key, they sang the same pattern back, but if the person did not have the key, they sang a different major tonic pattern. This is just one example of how one song can be adapted for different grade levels, adding more challenging concepts as the students learn and grow. Here is a recording of Ms. Wittmann's Kindergarten class singing this song. And the secret is out---the students here at Bryant love YOU!
Dear Bryant Family and Friends,
As we enter a season of thanks, I want to express my sincere gratitude for the ability to teach in this wonderful community. Every day I am reminded how fortunate I am to come to work at a place where students are celebrated and valued for their diversity and encouraged to learn, grow and try new things. There is nothing else I would rather do than teach music and I treasure each day with your students. This week, I shared this song with the Kindergarten and First graders, and thought you might enjoy it. The 1st graders even made illustrations to along with the song, which I turned into a book that was shared with the Kindergartners. Thank you for all that you do to support your students at home and I am grateful to be able to do my small part in helping them grow here at Bryant. Go Tigers! Mrs. Krohn
Over the last two weeks, the Kindergartners have been learning some fun apple songs in preparation for their trip to the apple orchard next week. Here are two recordings that you might enjoy! The first is Mrs. Joseph's class singing "Underneath the Spreading Apple Tree." In this song, we practiced AUDIATING different words of the song (singing them in our heads!) and they thought that it was super silly. The second song we like to call our "opposites song." They like this one because in class, whatever the song said not to do (don't sit, don't jump, don't wiggle), they were supposed to do! They got a huge kick out of this and always ask for more! I hope you enjoy these precious voices as much as I do!
The sniffles and sneezes are here already and the music room is in desperate need of tissue donations! If you would like to donate a box or two of tissues, we would greatly appreciate it. Please send them to school with your child, labeled "Music," so that they end up in our room. Thank you so much!
Thank you to all of the families that joined us last week at the 1st grade Informances. It was such a joy to see so many of you in our music room and I want to thank you for taking important time out of your day to come and support our Bryant students. The students LOVED getting to share their learning with you and I know one of the highlights was watching all of the grown ups join them in their favorite circle dance :) I wish you and your families a great end to the school year and a relaxing and rejuvenating summer break!
