We have been having a lot of fun in Kindergarten music class this year. I am already so impressed with their abilities to listen, follow directions, and at how quickly they pick up on new musical concepts. One of the songs we learned this week was "Donkeys Like to Munch." We had a lot of fun with this song and got to sing with Mrs. Krohn's donkey puppet. Each student was then given a "carrot" (an orange rhythm stick) and we practice tapping out different rhythm patterns, and tapping our carrots to the beat. At the end of the song, our donkey went around the circle and took bites out of everyone's carrot (we loved that part!) Then, as a challenge, Mrs. Krohn asked everyone if they could sing the ostinato "Yum Yum Yum Carrots" to see if we could make some harmony while she sang the melody (an ostinato is just a repeated pattern in music). Click on the orange arrow above to hear Mrs. Joseph's Kindergartners singing this awesome ostinato!
